In 1947, when, after the difficult war years, the country's economy gradually began to improve, it was decided to hold a fair — "Spring Bazaar". An entrance group several meters high in the style of traditional Russian architecture was built on Pushkin Square.
Multicolored lights were fixed on the arches, which were lit in the evenings. The fair itself was illuminated by powerful lanterns and searchlights. Therefore, the festive mood and the crowded nature of the fair remained in the evening.
The fair itself housed shopping towers and carts with different types of treats, which in some way was the personification of the rise of the food industry in the difficult post-war period. Signs were everywhere: "Moskovsko-Leninsky department Store", "Glavkhleb" and others.
The experience of holding the spring fair turned out to be so successful that the next seasonal "bazaar" It opened on Pushkinskaya Street in September of the same year and was timed to coincide with the 800th anniversary of the founding of Moscow. The whole city was decorated with flags and bright illumination.
The scale of the holiday was grandiose. In its commemoration, a medal was even issued — "In memory of the 800th anniversary of Moscow", which was subsequently awarded to about 1.7 million people. At the same time, a monument to the founder of Moscow, Yuri Dolgoruky, was laid. It was the first City Day in Moscow in the last 100 years. Previous celebrations of Moscow's birthday were held as early as 1847.
This year, following historical traditions, arched compositions with a height of 14 meters and a width of 33 meters were decided to be installed on Pushkin, Tverskaya and Manezhnaya squares, in Novopushkinsky Square and on Revolution Square.
An original artistic concept has been thought out for each of them, suggesting a special color scheme, colored bas-reliefs according to individual sketches and architectural illumination.
For example, a large-scale exposition consisting of several venues and dedicated to the Year of Russian Cinema will unfold on Tverskaya Street. At ten venues from Kozitsky Lane to Manezhnaya Square, the films "Ivan Vasilyevich changes his profession", "Pig and Shepherd", "War and Peace", "Circus", "The meeting place cannot be changed", "I'm walking around Moscow", "Pokrovsky Gate", "Guest from the Future" will be "reproduced"., "Night Watch", "Dudes".
These days, all guests will enjoy free film screenings, performances by musicians, meetings with famous actors and directors, as well as fascinating animation programs and master classes.
