Transparent fruits by Dennis Wojtkiewicz

This time we want to show you incredible oil paintings by an artist from Ohio Dennis Wojtkiewicz (Dennis Wojtkiewicz), depicting huge fruits. The realism in his works is striking, but it is the artist's play with light and transparency that gives the paintings a meditative quality.

Dennis Wojtkiewicz, a hyperrealist artist from the USA, paints paintings, looking at which it seems that these are photographs processed in a graphic editor. But all these juicy and bright slices of fruits, berries and flowers are painted with oil paints and pastels.

The author himself talks about his work:

"The creation of each painting begins with a monochrome background that complements the depicted object, after which I consistently apply translucent layers of paint. Up to ten layers may be needed to achieve the final result. This process, in fact, represents the improved techniques of the masters of Northern Europe, among whom Vermeer had the greatest influence on me.

Mentioning Vermeer, I would like to hope that, in addition to technique, his influence on light can be noticed in my works. I also try to work in a very traditional genre — still life - but perhaps in a more modern way: a minimum of form and a maximum of complexity of the process. There are a number of elements that work as a visual metaphor or reflection of topics such as spirituality, relationships (or lack thereof) and, in general, the temporary nature of things. Every time I go to my studio, I want to put a living spirit into the paintings, create something that can interact with the viewer on a sensual, if not metaphysical level."

Dennis Wojtkiewicz was born in 1954 in Chicago. The first exhibition of his works was held in 1981. Dennis now lives and works in Bowling Green, Ohio. He is a professor at Bowling Green State University, where he has been teaching painting and drawing since 1988. His work can be found in private galleries across America.

The artist's works are minimalistic in form and extremely complex in technique. In the technique of drawing, Voitkevich pays great attention to light, thanks to this, every vein, every seed and every petal are clearly visible.
