A shy, intelligent man learns the basics of American life, but when he sees its underside, he is disappointed. But you can't go home anymore. In the film, based on real events, Harrison Ford plays a heroic captain of a Soviet nuclear submarine. During the trip to the K-19, an accident occurs, and a radiation leak begins on the ship. Sailors manually repair damage in the reactor compartment, receiving a large dose of radiation. The captain decides to sink the boat, and the crew picks up the American destroyer that came up. Seven sailors die a week later, and later — another 20 people.
