Though critically lambasted, Pixels was one of the box office blockbusters of the summer that just ended. Probably, this was helped by the participation of cult video game characters - Pac-Man and Donkey Kong :) However, in the history of cinema, you can also find absolutely failed films based on computer games. Let's remember the most "terrible" of them.

5 Super Mario Bros (1993)

It is logical that the most popular game of the 80s the last century, Super Mario Bros., became the firstborn in the adaptation of video game plots to the big screen. But the picture, in the end, turned out to be very weak, with an ill-conceived plot and practically nothing to do with the original. The result is a complete failure at the box office and the ridicule of film critics, which continues to this day. Even outstanding actors - Bob Hoskins, Dennis Hopper, and John Leguizamo - could not save the film from failure.

4. Double Dragon (1994)

Shortly after Super Mario Bros., another movie based on the video game, Double Dragon, hit the silver screen. The tape turned out to be frankly weak, and this is not surprising, because the whole game was based on the fact that two guys move from point A to point B, crushing everything in their path along the way. The writers and director had to work hard to tailor at least some kind of plot out of this.

3. Silent Hill 2 (2012).

The first film based on Konami's game Silent Hill was quite good, but its sequel undermined all the achievements of the original, becoming one of the worst video game adaptations in history. The plot of this horror film does not make any sense - even the efforts of the talented actor Sean Bean did not help.

2. Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation (1997).

As in the case of Silent Hill, the first part of the film adaptation of the cult computer fight Mortal Kombat was a real hit. The picture was distinguished by an interesting plot and innovative special effects at that time ... Continuation? It would be better if they didn’t shoot it - almost no one was left from the original cast, the plot does not stand up to criticism, and cheap special effects overwhelm the cup of patience.

1. All films by Uwe Boll.

This German director enjoys a unique reputation as an "anti-Midas" - every video game film he took on was a complete failure. It all started with Alone in the Dark, which received the lowest rating in the history of the authoritative film site Rotten Tomatoes - 1% and brought in $ 15 million in losses. Do you think such a failure stopped Uwe? Not at all! Like a madman, he began to film his versions of the classic games - "Bloodrain", "Postal", and "House of the Dead". All of them failed miserably at the box office and aroused the indignation of their fans, which resulted in a petition demanding that the director stop making low-quality films. Judging by Ball's long quiet period, this petition had an effect :)
