The modern market is literally flooded with fakes: from cosmetics to medicines. But the lion's share of fakes falls on women's bags, in particular, on brands such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel. The problem with such fakes is that they are very difficult to distinguish from the original. And here modern technologies come to the rescue. A new system developed by researchers from New York University is able to distinguish genuine products from counterfeit ones by analyzing microscopic characteristics invisible to the human eye.

The Entrpy scanner connects to your smartphone, on which you install a special application. It is enough to slowly swipe the scanner over the outer and inner surface of the bag and the device will analyze all the small, often invisible to the eye details. It scans the material, fittings, seams and serial number of the product, and then compares these images with a database that consists of millions of photos of more than 30,000 designer bags of the most popular brands in the world.

Entrpy's technology is improving as customers upload more photos of authentic and fake bags to the database. Last year, Entrpy announced that the accuracy of the system is 97%, and in August of this year it reached 98.5%.

The founders of the startup claim that they tested the device not only on bags, but also on phones, chargers, jackets, shoes and even auto parts.

The device is not intended for sale, but is leased and is aimed at large suppliers who can confirm the quality of their products with the help of artificial intelligence. The system and scanner cost $99 for five scans per month, $399 for 30 scans and $999 for 100.
