Every year, the photo agency selects the best projects, the authors of which receive a $ 10,000 prize, as well as support in the implementation of their ideas in the field of photojournalism.
In the American Bedroom photo project, Barbara explores the complexities and peculiarities of modern American life.
Cody, Portland, Maine: "It's all so sad. I can't do anything. I can't go out with friends, play sports. I'm stuck in this room… Just me and my illness (rheumatic fever)."
Jessica, Milford, New Hampshire: "Sometimes life throws in different directions. But the most important thing is to remember exactly where you need to be."
Betty, Swiden, Maine: "My husband died. Now you can smoke in the house."
Holly and Nathan, Deep Gap, North Carolina: "We have been living in a house without amenities for 20 years."
Nito, Cambridge, Massachusetts: "There are days when I don't leave the room at all."
Piper, Jay, Maine: "In the morning I try not to make noise so as not to wake her up. And then I remember that she died."
Claire, Westford, Massachusetts: "I've always loved my bedroom because it's cozy and it reminds me of my childhood. Now I'm growing up and going through a lot of changes, but I like that this room doesn't change."
Christopher and Alice, Portland, Maine: "Now it's so rare to be just the two of us, constant running around, two children, a cat. But every time we get such a chance, we enjoy every minute. And they are as fleeting as summer..."
Germain: "Every year I wait for Christmas to eat Christmas cookies. I always hide them."
Junior and Top: "My bed is in the closet, so I like to jump on Mom's bed."
Carol: "Where are we?"
Middle-aged couple: "Finally our room is beautiful. But we... not really!"
Young family: "I can't stand this room, but we've been waiting for children for so long. That's why I like it when we're all together, even in this tiny room."
Winslow and Juno the cat: "I'm in a transitional period of life right now, but at least now I have a cat."
