The unreal reality of Nicolas Ruelle

Photographer Nicolas Ruelle has created a new project called 8 Seconds, in which he created unusual views of the world's famous cities using an 8-second exposure and rotating the lens in opposite directions. Thus, real cities and people, superimposed on each other, create a magical effect of the unreal beauty of the surrounding world.

1. Kyoto. The photographer took about a thousand pictures of the world's cities day and night in order to select the best of them and present them to the public, printed on metal plates.

2. New York. As the photographer himself says, his work turns any urban or rural space into a fictional environment.

3. Rio de Janeiro. Ruel says he chose stainless steel as the basis for his work for a reason. In his opinion, it is in this material that imaginary cities become reality.

4. Metro in Prague. The photographer describes his "8 Seconds" series as "microfilm" captured in a single image.

5. Istanbul. An employee of the Thompson Gallery, which hosts the Ruelle 8 Seconds exhibition, describes his work as follows: “the photographer sought to increase the life and spectacle of the city, balancing between dream and reality.”

6. Sydney. Ruel said in an interview: “I was looking for a way to speak a new language with my camera. The documentary aspect of my work is very important to me even from an artistic point of view.”
