1. Leonid began to grow abnormally after brain surgery at the age of 12. He developed a pituitary tumor, resulting in acromegaly.
2. For a long time, Leonid Stadnik refused official measurements of the representatives of the Guinness Book of Records, but in August 2007 he nevertheless replaced the previous growth record holder, a native of China (Inner Mongolia) Bao Xishun, in the Book. However, in August 2008, the Guinness Book of Records returned Bao Xishun's title of world's tallest man after Stadnik refused to be measured by independent judges, according to the Book of Records' new principles. Leonid Stadnik explained his refusal by the unwillingness of fame and hype around his name.
4. Like many acromegals, he has trouble moving around the house and has to walk with support.
5. Leonid Stadnik refused repeated official measurements, and in September 2009 he lost the status of the tallest man in the world. Whereas the 27-year-old Turk Sultan Kösen, whose height is 251 cm, passed official measurements and became the tallest officially registered person on the planet.
