Experts say that over the past 85 years, the automotive industry has not been able to produce a single car capable of competing with the legendary Ghost in the back of a coupe.
The history of the car is very unusual. Few people know that only the body is original in this handsome man, and the chassis, engine and everything else is taken from the serial Rolls Royce Phantom I, which was born in 1925. The automotive masterpiece was created not in the homeland of the Phantoms in the UK, but in Belgium, by Jonckheere, a company specializing in tuning original equipment.
An anonymous client turned to Jonckheere in 1934 with a request to make an exclusive body for his ten-year-old Rolls Royce Phantom I. The customer wanted to see not just an unusual design solution, but a car in a fashionable aerostyle in the 30s of the XX century.
The designers and craftsmen of the Jonckheere company coped with the task with honor and the client was very satisfied. In addition to the streamlined aerodynamic body, the Rolls-Royce received unusual round-shaped doors and a "fin" in the rear. The appearance of an elite car was revolutionary for its time and its appearance on the streets of any European or American city caused admiring shouts and envious groans.
Unfortunately, history has not preserved the name of the customer and the designer who performed such a difficult job. All the drawings and documents of this project were burned during the fire and all the efforts of specialists and enthusiasts aimed at establishing the truth were in vain.
The unique car, which exists in a single copy, has changed only three owners over the years and in the 40s its traces were lost. In the mid-1950s, a Rolls-Royce, or rather, what was left of it, was discovered in a landfill in New Jersey, in the USA. The car was in terrible condition and required time-consuming and expensive repairs.
Perhaps because of the financial side of the issue, the new owner of the car was in no hurry to put it in order and the ruins of the luxury coupe spent many years in his garage. Fortunately, they still remembered about the car and carried out its restoration, returning the original appearance.
Today, the sexiest vehicle in the world is located in California, USA, on display at the Peterson Museum.
Many incredible cars appeared thanks to the whim of the powerful in the 30s of the last century. Futuristic aviation style, in demand on the eve of the Second World War, became the hallmark of each of them.
