By Vika https://pictolic.com/article/the-scariest-bridges-in-the-world.htmlBridges can be not only extremely useful architectural structures, but also real extreme attractions, especially for those who are afraid of heights. In this collection, you will see bridges, most of which are scary to even get close to, let alone walk or ride on them. However, thrill-seekers will certainly add some of the bridges below to their must-see list.
10 PHOTOS
1. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado, USA.
The tallest suspension bridge in the United States stands over the Arkansas River at 291 meters. It was built in 1929 and upgraded in 1989 so it doesn't sway as much in the wind now. It was hard to imagine what it was like to walk on the bridge in windy weather before.
2. Trift Bridge, Switzerland.
The longest suspension bridge in the Alps was built at a height of more than 100 meters above Trift Lake. The bridge was built in 2004 by a local power company to carry out hydro and electrical work in the Trift Glacier area and has been a popular tourist attraction ever since.
3. Mackinac Bridge, Michigan, USA.
Suspension bridge across the Strait of Mackinac, with a total length of 8038 meters. Due to the fact that there are sections on the bridge where wind speeds reach 50 km / h, some drivers do not risk driving their car across the bridge in person. They use the services of a special service, whose employees transport cars across the Mackinac Bridge for free.
4. Bridge Puente de Ojuela, Mexico.
The bridge, 109 meters high, laid over the gorge, was originally built in the 19th century. Later it was improved to be safer, but the creaky wooden planks underfoot still scare tourists passing over the bridge. On top of that, this bridge also leads to the ghost town of Ohuela, an old mining settlement.
5. Hussaini Bridge, Pakistan.
During the construction of this bridge, a digital laser rangefinder was not used. Probably even the usual roulette was not used. A bridge made of ropes and boards was built over the Gutsy River. It is considered extreme not only because of the large gaps between the boards but also because of the constantly blowing strong wind that shakes the already unreliable bridge.
6. Ubein Bridge, Myanmar
A wooden bridge over Lake Tauntome, over a kilometer long, connects the city of Amarapura with a nearby village. It was built around the middle to the end of the 19th century from teak wood. A distinctive feature of this bridge is the absence of railings.
7. Deception Pass Bridge, Washington, USA.
55m high bridge connecting Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands in Deception Pass National Park. If driving over this bridge is not impressive enough, try walking over the roaring stream along the narrow footpath at the edge of the bridge.
8. Bridge Canopy Walk, Ghana.
A bridge in the Kakum National Park was built to allow tourists to explore the local natural attractions. However, to walk along this narrow, high, and seemingly very flimsy bridge, strong nerves are needed.
9. Dam bridge across Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, USA.
The bridge actually consists of two parallel bridges that are over 38 kilometers long. Some people venture on this bridge with great difficulty, because already after 13 km of the way you will not be able to see the land in any direction.
10. Viaduct Millau, France.
The cable-stayed bridge across the Tarn River, whose height is 245 meters. Passing over this bridge, you are approximately at the height of the Eiffel Tower, and sometimes from the window, you can see a plane flying at the same level as you.
