Photographer Anne Burlock Lawver emphasizes both the pain and the serenity of the tattooing process in her Indelible ("Indelible") series, which consists of images taken during the year at the New York tattoo salon Gunmental Tattoos.
Ann was told about the existence of Gunmental Tattoos in 2013 by the owners of the barbershop where she used to take pictures.
And although she doesn't have tattoos, she was curious to learn more about why people put them on their bodies, and to understand the nuances of the process associated with pain.
While photographing, she found that she managed to shoot moments of pain much less often than moments of calm.
