31-year-old Lydia Makarchuk was wounded by shrapnel near a campfire in the Ukrainian forest. The bride and her 43-year-old groom Norbert Varga (Norbert Varga) celebrated the wedding in a close circle of friends and family in the Carpathians, near the border with Hungary. The bomb exploded in flames when 12 people were nearby.

Lydia and her husband came to a picturesque area to spend their honeymoon here. The Ukrainian moved to the UK in 2017. The newlyweds live in Berkshire.

The bride said that at the time of the explosion, their tents were blown apart in different directions. She felt a heavy blow and heard a loud whistle. When the woman opened her eyes, everyone was moaning in pain. The groom was in the tent at the time. He heard the sound of an explosion, screams and immediately rushed to the fire.

Lydia was wounded by shrapnel in her left eye and face. She received deep wounds on her legs and arms, and even bones are visible in some places.

Her brother, 29-year-old Miroslav, and another person died from their injuries before the ambulance arrived, which drove to them for 1.5 hours. They tried to help them by making bandages, but, unfortunately, it was not possible to save the young people.

The forest near Hoverly Mountain was the site of battles during the two World Wars. They say the projectile has remained here since the Brusilov breakthrough of 1916.

After the explosion, Lydia got to the hospital only seven hours later. Now she can walk, but she is still in the hospital. The woman will travel to Hungary to have her eye treated and then return to the UK. She doesn't have insurance, so she needs to pay a big bill for medical services. Her parents are raising money for her treatment.
