The most unusual fence in the world

It all started two decades ago, back in 1999. Then four girls celebrated Christmas in the bar, and coming out of it in the morning, hung their bras on the fence. So there was a Fence of Cardron Bras, in Central Otago, New Zealand.

Strangely, the sight of bras fluttering in the wind inspired other ladies to leave their underwear on the fence, and by the end of February 2000, 60 more had joined the first four.

Since then, the fence has been replenished with more and more laundry. Now there are thousands of bras, and the fence itself has long become a kind of tourist attraction.

The popularity of Picking up Bras was growing rapidly, and every new arriving tourists considered it their duty to supplement the collection. Unfortunately, not all locals were happy with this.

Some consider the type of fence offensive and even too dangerous for drivers on this road.

Over the years, all these bras were removed from the fence several times, but each time they came back again.

The first attempt at "cleaning" was made a couple of months after the first bras appeared. Another attempt occurred in October 2000, when several unknown people took about 200 bras off the fence.

But the collection began to grow again. On April 28, 2006, the local council identified this fence as an "ugly" and "dangerous for traffic" place and ordered to remove all bras.

However, later, during a local festival, enthusiasts tried to break the record of the world's longest chain of bras by hanging 7,400 pieces in a row, which was 100 thousand less than the world record. But thanks to this attempt, $ 10,000 was earned for charity.

Nevertheless, the local sheep farmer John Lee, who became the unofficial keeper of the place, refused to remove the bras from the fence, claiming that 90% of the letters received about the fence were positive and that bras became the main attraction of this place for tourists and photographers.

The fence of bras continues to be periodically attacked, so there is a chance that during your visit to this place you will not see bras. And maybe you will see… But in any case, they always come back.
