Last week, the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre, which Odessans consider to be the most beautiful in the world, announced the start of regular tours before performances available to everyone. The guides promise to show the theatre's rich interiors: lobbies, staircases, galleries and auditorium, as well as tell some secrets from its history.

We present you a selection of stunning interiors of the most majestic and famous opera houses, ready to argue with the opinion of Odessans regarding the most beautiful theater in the world. The theater photographs were taken by David Leventi, who has always been a fan of classical music and loved to listen to arias from operas, using a Leica camera.

1. San Carlo Opera House, Naples, Italy, 2009

Starting in 2007, Leventi began to shoot the interiors of the most famous opera houses around the world on camera, creating the photo project "Opera".

The son of two architects, Leventi also found himself in the creative profession. He takes photographs mainly from the center of the stage, where the performer of the main part in the opera stands.

5. Romanian Ateneum, Bucharest, Romania, 2007

Leventi uses only existing chandeliers to illuminate the image. “Although the proportion of space varies, the goal is to achieve lateral and vertical symmetry in each image, thereby managing to show the space in perfect balance,” says the photographer about the shooting process.

6. Metropolitan Opera, New York, 2008

The interior of the Romanian Ateneum in Bucharest was photographed first. It had an impressive interior, with many decorative details. Standing in the center of the stage in the middle of a huge hall, Leventi experienced the power emanating from space.

7. Teatro La Fenice, Venice, Italy, 2008

“I love the architecture of opera houses and the way they look inside,” says the photographer. “They are like museums. I remember going with my grandmother to the Metropolitan Opera in New York to see War and Peace. Everything that happened on the stage was like a picture from a great story. It was an amazing sight!”

8. Amargoza Opera House, Death Valley, California, 2009

The theaters that Leventi included in his Opera project were chosen because of their interesting interiors or because interesting facts are associated with them. For example, the Amargosa Opera House was built in the late 1960s, its interior is made in the folk style and the style of paintings by Martha Beckett.
