By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/the-internet-has-to-be-protected-from-shark-attacks.htmlThe Internet is millions of computers connected to each other in different ways. Despite all the achievements of science and technology, cable is still considered the most reliable connection. Conductors of different types and diameters entangle not only land, but also sink to the sea floor and this is not the safest place for equipment.
Cables that cross oceans have many enemies. These are underwater currents, sharp rocks, aggressive salt water, pressure, temperature changes and ... you won't believe it – sharks. It seems that these predators of the deep, for some reason only known to them, fiercely hate underwater Internet cables and spare no effort to fight them.
It has already been established that sharks do not accidentally damage cables, but purposefully gnaw them. Considering that one such conductor provides communication to millions of subscribers, including ordinary citizens, banks and military departments, the damage from such mischief of toothy predators is simply enormous.
Judge for yourself – you need not only to accurately find the place where the highway is damaged, but also to get to it, sometimes through a thickness of sand and silt, and then connect the cliff qualitatively. Each such repair costs a lot of money to the cable owners, so they invest a lot of money to find out the nature of this sabotage and find a way to avoid it.
Scientists have not been very successful in solving this problem, but many authoritative experts believe that it's all about electromagnetic pulses. Sharks somehow sense the signals transmitted through the conductors, and take them for signs of the vital activity of certain creatures that are suitable for food.
To protect the Internet, or rather, the cables that ensure its operation, companies order all sorts of special conductors in strong shells. To date, the most reliable protection is recognized as a Kevlar-based shell, but it does not always save you from shark attacks.
Do you think the internet is plagued by huge tiger or white sharks? Not at all. Experts say that the losses from large predators are minimal, and the real enemies of cable and wire products are Brazilian glowing, or as they are also called cigar sharks. These fish are smaller than a cat, but at the same time they have no equal in aggression and perseverance.
With a mouth like the jaws of an Alien, the cigar shark attacks everything that comes in its way. Scuba diver, seal, cable, whale or submarine-small monsters are completely illegible in the objects of attacks. Their "rapid activity" annually brings millions of dollars in losses to firms.
