A 36-year-old resident of Alexandria has suffered from elephantiasis since childhood (persistent increase in body size due to painful overgrowth of the skin and subcutaneous tissue). Abdulatti suffered a stroke and was bedridden for 25 years.
In February, an Indian doctor, Muffazal Lakdawala, specializing in laparoscopic surgery, volunteered to help a 500-kilogram Egyptian woman. Abdulatti was taken to Mumbai on a charter plane and soon she underwent surgery to reduce her stomach and removed some of the fat. The patient's weight decreased by half.

We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased," the hospital said in a statement.
