By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/the-city-lit-only-by-the-stars.htmlKinda looked like the largest cities in the world the night without lighting? French photographer Thierry Cohen decided to check it out and created a unique photo project Darkened Cities — city, lit only by the stars. According to the photographer, he created a third reality, what is actually does not exist, then there is a city, deprived of electricity. See how would look the city, lit only by the stars.
Shanghai.
When, in August 2003 the Eastern parts of Canada and the United States plunged into darkness due to a power outage, some residents of new York for the first time in my life I saw the starry sky. Large night city illuminated with millions of lights: lights, traffic lights, Windows, neon signs, storefronts and car headlights. To see in such conditions starry sky without light pollution is almost impossible.
San Francisco.
Therefore, Thierry Cohen decided to create an image that exactly imitated city, lit only by the stars.
Hong Kong.
"By combining two realities, I created a third, that which we cannot see, but which more or less exists. I showed only the stars selected by our city", — told about the project by the photographer.
Rio de Janeiro.
"Photography is a demonstration of what is not. This is a unique way to fulfill his dream. I don't create a post-apocalyptic cities, but only those who have been deprived of electricity."
Tokyo.
To create the photography project "Darkened cities" Cohen visited nine cities, including new York, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong.
New York.
Each photo of this project consists of two separate shots. First, Thierry photographed the city and then have a dark looking for a suitable place in the same latitude, to take a picture of the starry sky.
Los Angeles.
Interesting, but Thierry was taking pictures of the town not a night and day using grey filters. "This was appropriate weather conditions. Photograph best when the sun is behind the clouds and there are no sharp shadows," said the 50-year-old photographer.
Shanghai.
Thierry Cohen lives in Paris. This project, according to the photographer he went poetically. "The artistry, not reality. This allows you to show the world what you'd like to see him."
Paris.
As a professional photographer Thierry Cohen since 1985. And only twenty years later he found the time to implement their own projects, including "Darkened cities".
Hong Kong.
