The success of the master of fashion photography Patrick Demarchelier cannot be attributed to a happy accident. Patrick Demarchelier was born in 1943 in the suburbs of Paris. He had a very ordinary family, in which four brothers grew up, and his parents were not very interested in art. At 17, Patrick was given a Kodak camera for his birthday, and this determined his destiny.

At first, Demarchelier enthusiastically studied photography, developing film, printing and retouching photographs. Then he began to be invited to local events and weddings as a photographer. When the guy showed himself to be a professional, he began to be invited to work in Parisian photo studios.

Demarchelier later said that he never thought about making a lot of money or becoming famous. He was completely focused on doing his job as well as possible:

And so it happened - success found Patrick Demarchelier. True, for this he had to move to New York. This event took place in 1975 and became a turning point in the photographer's life. In the USA, he began shooting for glossy magazines and very soon took a well-deserved place among the most sought-after masters.

Demarchelier worked with Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harper's Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Newsweek and Elle. In 1989, he became the unofficial photographer of the British royal family, the first in history who did not have British roots. He was invited to shoot for the legendary Pirelli calendar three times: in 2005, 2008 and 2014. The master of fashion photography died in 2022.

The peculiarity of Demarchelier's work is spontaneity. The photographer was looking for "the aesthetics of a random shot" in his work and was not interested in static poses of models. He always needed dynamics, emotions, expressiveness. It is this peculiarity that makes the works of the French photographer so recognizable and valuable.
