The previous world record in a solo transatlantic voyage was held by another Frenchman, Thomas Corville, with a time of 5 days, 19 hours, 30 minutes and 40 seconds. Joyon also holds another more serious world record: he circumnavigated the world in 57 days, 13 hours and 34 minutes.
