By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/the-blooming-desert-of-anza-borrego.htmlIt may seem surprising, but here are pictures of the desert. In the American Anza-Borrego National Park, once a year, dried wastelands are covered with millions of flowers. People from all over the country come to see this amazing event.
Steep gorges, dead salty land, a few fauna barely surviving in these difficult conditions — only this sight can capture the spirit of a real traveler. However, if you are lucky enough to get here in the period from February to April, then you will be able to see with your own eyes a real miracle that happens in a lifeless desert once a year.
The American continent never ceases to amaze the inhabitants of the planet with amazing wonders of nature. There are all kinds of attractions in the USA: picturesque canyons and national parks, high mountains and bizarre stone sculptures, noisy waterfalls and stormy rivers. But there is no such extraordinary blooming desert anywhere in the world!
This is what the desert looks like before flowering…
...and during.
In the Anza-Borrego National Park, which has an area of more than 2.4 thousand square kilometers, most of the territory is occupied by a lifeless desert area. However, after the winter rainy season, the dry land comes to life, covered with bright flowers and juicy grass.
The strength of the desert bloom depends on the abundance of rains that have passed in winter. Due to the few or late rains, flowering is very sparse, and in some places flowers may not appear at all.
The tourist service center is located in Borrego Springs, the only significant town of the park. In spring, it is not so hot in the desert (only +32 degrees), but since the climate is very dry and the winds blow, such a temperature is easily tolerated.
The territory of the desert is divided into three parts: mountainous (upper part), rocky foothills (middle part) and sandy valley (lower part).
Verbenas and fragrant lilies, evening primrose and other flowers bloom below. In the foothills and lower part of the mountains there are okotiyo, flowering cacti and choya. Agave and yucca grow high in the mountains.
