This is primarily due to the harvest and preparations for winter. People thanked the gods for gifts and had the opportunity to relax after hard months of work. Today, in almost all countries of the world, not only a huge number of religious, but also entertaining autumn events are held. The best of them are presented below.

10th place. The Albuquerque Balloon Festival is the largest ballooning festival in the world. This year, the dates are scheduled for October 4-12. (a4gpa)
9th place. La Merce Festival. This year the event takes place from 19 to 24 September. The action has been organized since 1902 in honor of the patroness of Barcelona, Saint Merce. By tradition, a parade and competitions of castells are held - towers and people. (Stasiu Tomczak)
8th place. The day of the Dead. It is celebrated annually on November 1 and 2 in Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and El Salvador. The holiday is dedicated to the memory of the dead. By tradition, a colorful carnival is arranged in the costumes of the dead. (Alex Torres)
7. Chocolate Festival in Turin - a feast for lovers of sweets. This year the date is scheduled for November 21st. As part of the event, master classes, chocolate tastings, concerts and prize draws are organized. (Marcella Tambuscio)
6th place. Seoul International Fireworks Festival. This year, the action is scheduled for October 9th. After sunset, teams of pyrotechnicians from different countries demonstrate their skills. The festival has been held since 2000. (Gihoon Jung)
5th place. The Berlin Light Festival is a contemporary festival that has been held annually in October since 2005. Within two weeks, about 70 historical and architectural monuments of Berlin become light installations. (Gertrud K.)
4th place. Diwali is a Hindu holiday that symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The festival falls at the beginning of the month of Kartik and is celebrated for five days. By tradition, it is customary to decorate houses with garlands and lanterns, and set off fireworks. (Trey Ratcliff)
3rd place. Loy Krathong is a Thai holiday celebrated on the full moon in November. On this day, believers are cleansed of sins, offenses and bad thoughts by letting krathongs from banana tree leaves into the water and heavenly lanterns into the sky. (Mark Fischer)
2nd place. Oktoberfest is a Bavarian beer festival that takes place annually in the second half of September and lasts 16 days. The first Oktoberfest took place in 1810 as part of the celebration of the marriage of Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghaus. Today the festival is one of the most popular in the world, attracting about 6 million visitors every year. (46137)
