The best photos of the prestigious World Press Photo 2014 photo contest

The winners of the prestigious 57th World Press Photo Contest were announced recently in Amsterdam.

John Stanmeyer from the USA received the Best Photo of 2013 award. The prize shot was a photograph of African immigrants on the coast of Djibouti city, picking up their phones in the hope of picking up a cellular signal from neighboring Somalia. One of the jury members Gillian Edelstein noted that migrants are usually portrayed as poor, exhausted, dirty. In the same picture, they are full of hope and dignity.
