The owners of the dog returned to pick up some more things, but the dog, whom Oliver called Boo, was left. "They left something they didn't want to take with them, including Boo," Oliver says.
At first, the dog behaved cautiously, not letting Oliver get too close. The latter, in order not to destroy the trust in the person, decided not to rush. As a result, the man stayed with Bu until one o'clock in the morning, talking to him and trying to get closer.
"I think he was unsure of people. I think he was waiting for his family to come back and pick him up," says the volunteer.
He returned the next morning with breakfast for his new friend—two McMuffins with sausages and two hash browns. Boo swallowed it all in one sitting.
In the end, one evening Oliver managed to put a leash on Boo. Then they spent 45 minutes together, just chatting.
"We just had a conversation, me and Boo. I told him that all this would pass and no one would hurt him anymore," Oliver recalls.
Then it was time to show Boo to the vet.
While all this was happening, the story of Boo's fate spread on social networks. Thousands of people shared that very first photo on the mattress, and there were many offers to take Boo to a new family.
People also started sending donations, which was great news for Boo, because it turned out that the dog had a heartworm.
According to Oliver, the dogs he rescues often suffer from various diseases. Owners often abandon them because they cannot afford the services of a veterinarian.
The hours spent next to the abandoned dog were not in vain and paid off handsomely. As soon as Boo heard Oliver's voice at the veterinary clinic, he immediately came running to hug.
"He has gone through great changes. This is a typical American Pit bull terrier — very trusting, loving, outgoing and gradually crawling out of its shell," says Oliver. "I'm just showing him the love, attention and care I give to all my dogs," he adds.
While Bu is being treated for helminth, he will be under the care of a foster family. As soon as he gets better, the public organization will find him a permanent family among the locals.
According to Oliver, Boo's story proved that if you put your heart and soul into something, you will be rewarded.
