Last year, Mason was in Paris on the very day that several terrorist attacks were carried out on the city. During the Boston Marathon, a young missionary and a colleague were within a block of the finish line where the explosion occurred. There they were waiting for Mason's mother, who took part in the race.

The parents of the lucky man report that everything is fine with their son - he behaves with restraint, calmly and is now undergoing rehabilitation in a Brussels hospital. Mason told them not to worry: “I don't think you need to go to Europe, but I won't stop you if you want,” young Wells told his father during a telephone conversation. “The burns are not terrible, I’m sure there won’t even be scars.”
