Scientists came to such an alarming conclusion after conducting numerous studies. A sedentary lifestyle contributes to the development of one of the most insidious conditions that affects the body in just a few minutes and often ends in death. Few people know about it, but its consequences are deadly. Find out what kind of disease it is and how to prevent its development from our material.
Sitting for a few hours every day can even kill you. A deadly condition occurs in different people, regardless of their age and well-being. This is a pulmonary embolism, in which a blood clot approaches the lungs and blocks the vessel. A person's life in this case hangs by a thread. Most often, a blood clot comes through the bloodstream from the leg in the presence of deep vein thrombosis.
Most people have not even heard of pulmonary embolism, but it can affect everyone, despite good health and youth. The first symptom is chest pain. Unfortunately, not everyone goes to the doctor right away. Sometimes this leads to a sad ending.
A pulmonary embolism occurs when part of a blood clot is forced out of a leg vessel and sent to the lungs. In half of the cases, the cause of pulmonary thrombosis cannot be determined. It was possible to identify a pattern: patients who have been sedentary for a long time are at particular risk.
Deep vein thrombosis often develops in people who have undergone surgery, as well as in those who spend a lot of time on trains, planes and cars. Thrombosis can occur after traveling longer than six hours.
Thrombosis develops against the background of a sedentary lifestyle, since the muscles of the lower legs are in a relaxed state for a long time. As a result, the blood circulates worse and begins to accumulate in certain areas.
At risk are office workers who sit at a desk for eight hours a day. Doctors recommend not to sit for a long time, but to get up every hour and walk a little. Try not to cross your legs while sitting, because in this position the blood flow is disrupted.
People over the age of 60, women taking oral contraceptives, people suffering from obesity and concomitant pathologies, such as heart disease or cancer, are at risk.
The symptoms of thrombosis are almost imperceptible. When a pulmonary embolism occurs in 25% of cases, death occurs instantly. However, at first people may feel breathing problems, pulse acceleration due to the load on the heart, chest pain. Sometimes there is a cough with blood, weakness, dizziness, loss of consciousness occurs.
With deep vein thrombosis, there is a throbbing or convulsive pain in the leg (more often in the lower leg or hip). The skin around the painful place becomes hot and reddens, and the leg swells. The veins on the leg swell, become hard and hurt when touched.
The older a person gets, the more he sits. The results of a study by British experts showed that 75-year-olds sit, on average, 11 hours a day. In addition, the more a person sits, the more he is at risk of heart attacks and ages faster.
One study found that workers who sit at desks for eight hours a day are 60% at risk of premature death.
Unfortunately, irregular classes in the gym do not restore the body after the harmful effects of prolonged sitting. In order to correct the situation, you need to practice at least 40 minutes daily. And the most effective way of prevention is to get up more often and change the position of the body every hour.
Meanwhile, doctors told about six types of abdominal pain that cannot be ignored. So the body sends signals that something is wrong with it.
