Just look at these big-eyed, touching inhabitants of the forest, as if they came down to us from the frames of a Disney cartoon. These squirrels seem to be working for the camera. Aren't they adorable?

Photographer Masatsugu Ohashi took these amazing photos on the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

These animals are very shy, they lead a nocturnal lifestyle, and in winter they can sleep for several days. They love trees, especially those on which woodpeckers leave holes, ideal for comfortable nests.

These squirrels avoid predators by flying from tree to tree with the help of a thin membrane of skin on all four paws.

These squirrels prefer pine, cedar or spruce with abandoned hollows made by woodpeckers.

On average, flying birds weigh about 150 g, and together with the tail, their length is up to 34 cm.
