If you ask married men how they sleep better — together or apart, you can get a variety of answers. Most will say that it is more pleasant to sleep together, but there will be opposite opinions. Some people will tell you about snoring girls, about taking a blanket or even about those who spread out on the whole bed. Women will probably have a lot more of these stories. But these are all special cases, and only scientists know the true state of things.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has studied joint and separate sleep and made an important statement. Scientists have found that those who sleep with their significant other get better sleep and are even mentally healthier. To get answers to their questions, the researchers interviewed 1007 adult residents of the state of Pennsylvania.

The questions concerned not only sleeping in the same bed with a partner. Psychologists were interested in whether respondents like it when children or pets come to their bed. The quality of sleep was assessed by a number of parameters, including the degree of insomnia, duration, apnea index and others.

It turned out that people who have slept with a partner almost never complain of insomnia. Their sleep was sound, they rarely suffered from apnea and generally woke up refreshed. Those to whom a child, a cat or a dog came to bed, on the contrary, slept worse and complained of apnea. Those who got a restless partner were also dissatisfied with the quality of sleep. If the bedmate is tossing and turning, talking in his sleep or snoring, then such a dream cannot be called a full rest.

Those who slept alone described their condition in much the same way. They could not sleep more often than others, experienced breathing problems, and in the morning they got up broken. Therefore, it was concluded that it is better to sleep together. But only if you have chosen the right partner.

Having a good night's sleep, we reduce anxiety and reduce the risk of depression. And those who like to sleep in proud solitude or have not got a life partner are much more likely to suffer from a bad mood.
