In the course of many years of research, a group of scientists from around the world found that people with developed intelligence age more slowly than their peers who did not bother with mental exercises.

The British Society of Psychologists has published a report stating that smart people remain active and feel good longer, and besides, they look younger. The study that allowed us to come to such conclusions lasted 54 years and covered 4 thousand volunteers from different countries.

The scientific work was attended by specialists from University of Lyon and The University of Montpellier (France), the State University of Florida (USA) and the University of Bielefeld (Germany). The information was collected among volunteers during the so-called Wisconsin Longitudinal Study. The volunteers became the object of observations in adolescence in the 50s, when they were at school.

In 2011, the volunteers were contacted for the last time, when they crossed the 70-year milestone. After assessing the physical condition of the participants of the experiment, which lasted all their lives, the researchers found that the best preserved youth, physical and mental activity, as well as a positive attitude were those volunteers who tried to get a good education and constantly expanded their horizons.Being smarter than others, they built their lives more correctly, controlled emotions more confidently and committed fewer rash and dangerous actions for their health. It is now known for sure that active mental activity helps to delay old age and keep a sharp mind and good physical shape longer.
