Psychologists have conducted research among people investing in cryptocurrency. It turns out that among them the percentage of psychopaths is higher than among any other groups. According to scientists, cryptocurrency attracts people prone to cruelty and mental disorders. They have deviations included in the so—called "dark tetrad" - a list of the most unpleasant and dangerous disorders.

Scientists, together with the popular scientific publication Science Alert conducted an online survey among 566 people. They were asked to answer a number of questions related to cryptocurrencies and plans regarding investments. 26 percent of respondents admitted that they own tokens, and 64 percent reported that they are interested in investing in cryptocurrency.

The second stage of the study was testing the respondents for the presence of mental abnormalities from the so-called "dark tetrad". It includes Machiavellianism, narcissism, sadism and psychopathy. The conclusions were disappointing — most of the respondents had mental problems to one degree or another.

Egocentric personality trait, because of which its owners are convinced of their superiority over other people. Narcissists have unshakable self-confidence, which makes them make very risky investments. Scientists have found that narcissists adhere to positive thinking and almost always believe that they will be able to live better thanks to cryptocurrencies.

This phenomenon was named after the medieval Italian political philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli. Such people are prone to manipulation and deception, shy away from adventures and gambling and prefer to make informed decisions. But at the same time, Machiavellians believe in conspiracy theories, see hidden motives in political events, and are also sure that governments are watching citizens and are mired in corruption. For these people, cryptocurrencies are a way to escape from the power of the system and circumvent state corruption.

Psychopaths are impulsive, heartless and very often become antisocial personalities. They have problems with emotions due to a lack of emotional intelligence and basic empathy. But thanks to this, they are highly resistant to stress and anxiety. This makes psychopaths thrill-seekers who are willing to take a conscious risk. Psychopaths often develop gambling addiction and they buy cryptocurrency, fearing that someone will bypass them in obtaining benefits.

Sadists take pleasure in the suffering of others. They are prone to aggression, both physical and emotional. The motive forcing such people to buy cryptocurrency seems strange. Although operations with tokens do not directly harm others, sadists are driven by the fear of letting someone else get rich.

Well, the average result revealed by the study showed that a cryptocurrency lover is an impulsive psychopath with an inflated ego.
