This miraculous event took place in India, where a north London animal rescue charity released an elephant named Raja, who had spent 50 years in captivity. The elephant fell into the hands of a negligent owner, while still very small. He was wearing shackles with spikes, from which the elephant's legs bled. The elephant was very hungry and lived only on handouts from tourists, from hunger he even began to eat plastic. When kind people freed the poor animal, tears flowed from his eyes.

1. Poor Raja spent 50 long years in captivity before he was released. All this time he was in spiked shackles, because of which the blood oozed from the Raja's legs. The owner chained him on the street with the aim that the elephant, with its unfortunate appearance, “begged” for alms from tourists.
2. The elephant's nutrition was extremely wrong, besides, he was starving and from hunger he even began to eat plastic, which would simply kill him over time.
3. When employees from a North London animal rescue charity became aware of this egregious case of cruelty, they, having found out about this elephant, notified the Indian authorities and went to India to save Raja.
4. The touching moment when the elephant knelt down to have his shackles removed. While the shackles that had been holding him for 50 long years were removed from Raja, tears of happiness flowed from his eyes.
Raja's owner didn't have any documents for him, so the animal rescue workers were free to take the elephant from him. A team of 20 forest rangers, 10 veterinarians and 6 police officers freed the elephant under cover of night, when there were fewer tourists around. Before the shackles were removed, Raja was fed bananas so that he would understand that he had nothing to fear.
5. After Raju was released, he was taken 560 km from his place of detention to an elephant reserve, where he will be taken care of properly.
6. Now the charitable organization raises funds for the maintenance of Raja in the reserve.
7. It is not known how Raja got to the previous owner. Most likely, the poachers either killed his mother, or simply stole the baby elephant, and then sold it. Before the sale, poachers beat baby elephants to break their pride. Most likely, Raja had many owners before he was released.
8. Raja is now free and safe.
9. The entire rescue team described Raja's rescue as very emotional.
10. Now Raja eats his fill and takes regular showers.
11. Also in the reserve he was provided with the necessary medical care.
12. And they gave him what he lacked for so long - peace and affection.
13. Now Raja will have a long rehabilitation course.
14. Raja for the first time felt the taste of freedom, he will live the rest of his life in complete peace, and all the pain and suffering left behind.
Congratulations to Raja and we wish him a speedy recovery! By the way, there are also many beautiful elephants in the reserve, so Raja will have something to do.
