Rescue of an elephant who spent 50 years in captivity, who cried with happiness

Categories: Animals

People are very cruel to animals, especially in poor countries. This miraculous event took place in India, where a north London animal rescue charity released an elephant named Raja, who had spent 50 years in captivity. The elephant fell into the hands of a negligent owner, while still very small. He was wearing shackles with spikes, from which the elephant's legs bled. The elephant was very hungry and lived only on handouts from tourists, from hunger he even began to eat plastic. When kind people freed the poor animal, tears flowed from his eyes.

1. Poor Raja spent 50 long years in captivity before he was released. All this time he was in spiked shackles, because of which the blood oozed from the Raja's legs. The owner chained him on the street with the aim that the elephant, with its unfortunate appearance, “begged” for alms from tourists.

4. The touching moment when the elephant knelt down to have his shackles removed. While the shackles that had been holding him for 50 long years were removed from Raja, tears of happiness flowed from his eyes.

Raja's owner didn't have any documents for him, so the animal rescue workers were free to take the elephant from him. A team of 20 forest rangers, 10 veterinarians and 6 police officers freed the elephant under cover of night, when there were fewer tourists around. Before the shackles were removed, Raja was fed bananas so that he would understand that he had nothing to fear.

7. It is not known how Raja got to the previous owner. Most likely, the poachers either killed his mother, or simply stole the baby elephant, and then sold it. Before the sale, poachers beat baby elephants to break their pride. Most likely, Raja had many owners before he was released.
