Portraits of Lithuanian guys reacting to the resumption of conscription

Categories: Photo project

In the spring of this year, conscription for military service was suddenly restored in Lithuania. On May 11, using a random number generator, a list of men aged 19-28 who became conscripts was compiled. In total, 37,000 people were called up for military service, some of them volunteers. Such a “lottery” caused both positive and negative emotions among the public. It is worth noting that not all the selected male representatives liked the military service, who, in turn, faced condemnation by other citizens. They were called "cowards" and "non-men".

In the wake of the general discussion of the issue, a project was created by photographers Beata Tyshkevich-Khasanova and Neringa Ryakashyute. The masters showed the hidden emotions of men, showing them crying. According to the authors of the project, tears in no way humiliate the stronger sex, but only demonstrate the ability to feel and experience.
