These human organs are made from Japanese paper and the gilded edges of old books. All of them are created using the quilling technique. Quilling first appeared in the Renaissance - it was invented by monks and nuns who found a way to usefully use the gilded edges of old bibles, and later - by the 18th century - aristocratic ladies created quilling masterpieces in their spare time. Artist Lisa Nilsson has found an interesting way to use different shapes of paper folded using the quilling technique - she creates mind-blowing models of human organs!
