Office workers began to take pictures, substituting their own heads for pictures of wild animals on computer monitors and calling it all "office safari" (office safari). In a few days, entertainment has turned into a real meme.
Some publications have dubbed the original idea "the best meme since Doge." However, as we managed to find out, this is the second attempt of the "office safari" to conquer the Internet.

1. The founder of the trend in early August was the user of Imgur photo hosting with the nickname krutov. It was he (or she) who uploaded an album with 21 photos to the site, demonstrating the essence of the meme.
2. In the photo, the user's colleagues, apparently working with him in the same company, make different faces in turn, as if looking out from behind their own monitors.
3. At the same time, screen savers with pictures of bears, fish, hippos, monkeys and tigers are installed on the monitors, made in such a way that the animals’ heads (in whole or some part of it) are not visible - its place is taken by the face of an office employee.
4. At the time of writing this article, the “safari album” has already managed to collect about 70 thousand views on Imgur. The growth in popularity of the photos was greatly facilitated by a link to them, which appeared at the end of last week on Reddit.
5. Users of the site immediately tried to establish exactly where the employees who came up with the meme work. It turned out that in photographs with monitors one can distinguish a lot of inscriptions made on small sticky notes.
6. They are all in Portuguese, which suggests a Portuguese or Brazilian origin for office entertainment. Further, the search for the "original source", however, did not go away.

11. At the same time, the idea of "office safari" was picked up by the employees of the American animal website The Dodo. On the pages of the publication appeared photos of employees, made in the style of pictures from the album on Imgur.
12. Here, several new “characters” were involved at once - from dogs to koalas.

Photos with the meme can also be found on several small Russian-language sites. Pssss.net, for example, calls the "office safari" a new "movement" that is gaining momentum on social media.

Nevertheless, it is difficult to call “office safari” a new movement. Back in July 2013, Mashable wrote about the origin of such entertainment. Mike Whiteside, an employee of the WCRS advertising agency in London, was then listed as the author of the meme.
On his Tumblr Desk Safari blog, Whiteside began collecting pictures of people taking pictures with wild animal bodies on computer monitors in the office. Gradually, the popularity of the blog grew, and users from all over the world began to send their photos in the style of "office safari" (desk safari).
A few weeks after the publication in Mashable, the Brazilian tech blog CanalTech wrote about Whiteside and his idea. It was after this that a lot of photos from Brazil with inscriptions in Portuguese appeared on the blog of the London-based advertiser, which attracted the attention of Reddit.
However, in 2013, the "office safari" failed to really promote. Not a single major Western site wrote about the meme, except for Mashable, and the @DeskSafari account that appeared on Twitter was eventually abandoned and is empty today.
In addition to The Dodo and Reddit already mentioned here, in 2014 such publications as Metro and ViralNova already participated in the promotion of the meme with photos in the office.
Not everyone gets it right the first time.
