One of the pictures was taken in Washington Square Park opposite the famous arch. 25 dancers undressed and stood in position for 43 seconds, after which the photographer shouted for them to hide. They were filmed around midnight and managed just before the police arrived. This was the last frame missing for the album.
Matter is known for his bestseller for the New York Times — the project Dancers Among Us ("Dancers among us"). For the new project, he filmed dancers without clothes in the USA, Canada and Europe. Many of the pictures in the USA were taken near the sights of New York.
During the filming of the photo project, the police interrupted the work of the Matterer more than forty times. Despite this, he was never arrested.
For each frame, the photographer asked a group of dancers to rehearse a pose in clothes, so that they only had to repeat the same thing, but without clothes, in less than a minute.
"There is no obvious reason why these wonderful dancers voluntarily participated in the project. It was often very cold, it was usually late at night, it was dangerous, illegal, exhausting, and, of course, they had to get naked," says the photographer.
"Nevertheless, they agreed anyway. Why? Because they share my belief: if we make this leap, there will be a connection."
Expressive, dynamic and talented pictures from the new album of the Matter tell about what it's like to go out boldly and without looking back, express yourself, challenge conventions.
