At some point, her weight reached 300 kg, but she continues to eat fried wings with barbecue sauce and other junk. This woman is not able to take care of herself - she even goes to the toilet with the help of her husband. Oh, and speaking of husband... His name is Josh, and he doesn't want his wife to lose weight. Why? Because she is afraid that when she becomes slimmer, she will no longer need him.

1. Now, thanks to a recent operation, Betty Jo weighs 230 kg. Josh has become her "guardian" - he helps his wife get to the toilet and shower, and then applies powder between her folds so that the skin does not rot and rub.
2. “I was always in pain,” says Betty. My weight was killing me. I couldn't do anything on my own. My husband Josh was supposed to help me take a shower and wipe my butt. It was humiliating. He had to be my nurse. Our marriage was also on the wane. No intimacy. Sometimes I thought, Am I with Josh because I love him or because he's the only one looking after me? I hated myself, hated my life. I'm so tired of everything."
3. But, despite the terrible weight, Betty Jo continued to eat fried chicken and barbecue sauce. “As a child, I was chubby, and I didn’t care. But at the age of 13, my life completely changed. I was sexually assaulted. That's when I started getting depressed and eating more and more. I thought that if I was big, I could protect myself. When I met Josh at 17, I already weighed 180 kg and could barely walk. I hated myself and wanted to commit suicide." Although Betty Jo survived the suicide attempt, seven years later (at the age of 24) she realized that life was slipping through her fingers. “I existed. Didn't go anywhere. It is very difficult to lead any kind of active life when you weigh 300 kg.”
4. Josh admits he didn't even try to help Betty Jo lose weight. “I thought that if she lost weight, she would stop needing me and leave me.” But Betty Jo decided to change. “I don't want to waste my life sitting on a chair. I wanted to build a career, have a baby. I want to get old."
5. “I knew that if I didn’t change, I would die.” Betty and Josh ended up going to a bariatric surgeon in Houston. They had to go through many doctors to find someone who would undertake the operation.
6. With a height of 157 cm, the ideal weight for Betty Jo is 54 kg, but the doctor said that she is unlikely to ever reach it. He challenged Betty to lose 12 kg to demonstrate that she really wanted to lose weight. Only then was he ready for the operation.
7. Thanks to the operation, Betty Jo lost 70 kg, but after it she stopped losing weight. Josh cooked her own food and often ignored all the doctor's orders. When Betty had an attack of lack of oxygen and she was taken to the hospital, they both realized that this was a wake-up call. Josh admits: “I took care of her, but when she started moving around the house on her own after the operation, I panicked because I didn’t want her to leave me. She's the only one I've ever loved."
