This territory of 23067 hectares called "Golden Gates Mansions" was the largest in America in the 1960s. Canals and roads were built, but eventually the construction company went bankrupt. The Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport was originally planned as an airport for Everglades Jetport jets. Its construction began in 1968, and it was planned as the largest airport with six lanes to support super-high-speed traffic. Due to the nearby Big Cypress Nature Reserve, the construction of the airport was suspended, and when the advertised "super-high-speed" airport did not meet the expectations assigned to it, the project was left as it is.
