By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/joan-cornella-and-his-dark-comics.htmlSpanish cartoonist and illustrator Joan Cornella is known for his cartoons full of surrealism and black humor. Joan has worked for many national Spanish magazines, created illustrations for the New York Times, and now draws cartoons. His works confuse the mind, delight and frighten at the same time. Today we want to share with you the latest comics by Joan Cornelli.
When someone came up with the phrase "whatever you do, don't forget to smile," they didn't expect Joan Cornella to take advantage of this idea and take it to the terrible extremes of a dark comedy. But perhaps it's for the best, because these smiles are the only thing that hides our minds from the cruelty of the images that Joan creates.
A smile allows us to feel safe watching the terrifying graphic scenes of his illustrations. This is the only thing that reminds us that all this is unreal, and despite the too real sinister shades and comments, his style finds its place in the realm of surrealism.
Looking at these illustrations, you can easily assume that Joan Cornella is a perverted, mentally unstable person, and that he probably should seek help, but you are very mistaken. In fact, he understands his work very well and is very sensitive when someone cannot distinguish fiction from reality as well as art from an artist.
He does not consider himself a cynical person in the popular sense of the word, which is that a person lacks any trust in humanity and he acts in his own interests. However, he is very interested in Cynicism, a philosophical school dating back to the disciples of Socrates.
