It wasn't easy for her to find herself in the modeling industry. Jessica belongs to the category of plus-size girls, and besides that, she is also dark-skinned. She believes that racism continues to flourish in her business and is doing everything to change it.
(Careful! Nude).
Jessica says it's much harder for models with dark skin color to find a job. Brands believe that their products will not be sold if they are advertised by black models. In the erotic segment, everything is also not easy — some are not sure that models with dark skin are desirable. Sometimes, on the contrary, girls of this type are referred to some kind of fetish, which is very insulting.
Now Jessica Jupele is popular and in demand, but it wasn't always like that. In an interview, the beauty tells what difficulties she had to face on the way to success. For 13 years in the modeling business, she lost weight, gained weight, straightened and dyed her hair, changed her clothing style. Yupele starred in candid photo shoots and, conversely, deleted nude photos to appear more serious.
Nothing helped and Agent Yupele said he couldn't find her a job. The girl was particularly offended by the statement of one of the London agencies. They openly said that they "do not work with ethnic models", referring to her skin color. Despite this, Jessica continued to move forward and she succeeded.
Now the model not only works successfully, but also helps other girls with dark skin. She founded the @sumagazine project— an online magazine for aspiring models. Yupele says that since the doors were closed in front of her, nothing much has changed and, despite her fame, she continues to face a biased attitude.
Another black model also had to face racism. Nyakim Gatweh even once offered to whiten the skin to become less noticeable.
