The peculiarity of jabotikaba is that its fruits grow directly on the surface of the trunk and thick branches. This unusual phenomenon is called caulifloria (caulifloria) and is also found in cocoa, persimmon, breadfruit and some other tropical plants.
Jabotikaba grows in Portugal, Argentina and, mainly, as the name implies, in Brazil. Juicy purple fruit can be plucked and eaten directly from the tree.
Jabotikaba fruits are a popular ingredient for making jams and freshly squeezed juices. Moreover, they make wine or strong liqueur from them. Sometimes there's just no other choice. The fact is that the fruits are not subject to long storage. Already three days after removing them from the tree, the fermentation process begins.
You will need patience if you want to get one of these trees on your site. It's been growing for 100 years, but when it reaches maturity, it's worth all the effort. It has been proven that the plant adapts well. The best environment for it is moist and slightly acidic soil, but it will grow well even in alkaline soils.
In spring and summer, the trunk and branches of the jabotikaba are covered with many unusual white flowers with long stamens. Also at this time and until autumn, the plant actively bears fruit. During the season, this amazing grape tree yields several harvests.
If the plant gets enough moisture, it blooms and bears fruit all year round. The size of the fruit itself is about 4 cm in diameter. The fruit contains up to 4 large seeds. In addition to the fact that the grapes themselves are eaten, their skin in dried form is used to treat asthma and diarrhea.
If your tonsils are inflamed, you can try to soften the inflammation with them. In addition, several anti-cancer components were found in the fruits of jabotikaba. It is hoped that the plant may be useful in the fight against this disease.
