But most often this was due to the fact that there was simply no one to help. But the case that happened recently in the Russian Vyborg is different from the others. A pensioner and a blockade worker performed an operation on herself due to human indifference and negligence.
Victoria Sh . , an employee of the Vyborg ambulance station , told about the case of the pensioner . An elderly woman suffered from cancer, which caused a dangerous complication - ascites. With this disease, fluid accumulates inside the abdominal cavity, squeezing the internal organs. This is a very dangerous condition that prevents walking, lying down and even breathing, and also often causes death.
Emergency care for ascites consists in removing fluid from the body, for which incisions are made that penetrate into the abdominal cavity. This operation is called laparocentesis and, as you may have guessed, it should be performed by a surgeon in the operating room and under anesthesia.
The ambulance employee did not give the exact reason why the old woman was refused surgery. But at the same time, Victoria transparently hinted that the doctors simply ignored the grandmother with oncology, since everyone was busy with covid patients. The pensioner, realizing that she could not wait for help, performed the operation herself. Before that, she wrote a letter to her relatives:
The blockade woman's letter looks as if the woman is trying to divert any suspicions from her loved ones in case of a fatal outcome. Surprisingly, after an artisanal operation, an elderly woman survived. Victoria told about her future in the social network:
The Health Committee of the Leningrad region reacted to this case. They conducted an inspection there and found out that the pensioner had applied to an oncological dispensary, but she was not registered there for the main disease. Nevertheless, health officials promised to investigate and find the culprits in this wild case.
