PictolicIn Portland, the trial of 71-year-old Nancy Crampton Brophy (Nancy Crampton Brophy), who killed her husband Daniel, took place. It took the court 8 hours to reach a verdict on the defendant's guilt. It seems to be an ordinary case, a domestic murder. But the piquancy of the situation is that Brophy is the author of the book "How to kill your husband."
Daniel Brophy's body was discovered on June 2, 2018, on a footpath near the Oregon Culinary Institute in southwest Portland. The man worked at the institute and was shot when he was walking to the parking lot at the end of the working day. After checking the surveillance cameras in the area of the murder, it became clear that the attack itself did not get into the lens. But on the other hand, the cameras recorded Nancy's car, which was moving first towards Daniel's work, and then back.
The time of Crampton Brophy's trip to the institute coincided with the interval at which the murder occurred. The wife of the deceased categorically denied involvement in the crime and insisted that she was in the area by accident. Nancy told the investigation that she was just breathing fresh air and looking for inspiration to write a new book.
The writer was in no hurry to confess to the murder even after it turned out that she had bought a gun. A check of Nancy's computer showed that the woman had previously searched the web for information on untraceable weapons. Crampton Brophy said that she bought a gun when she was preparing to write another novel. But she couldn't explain where the weapon had gone.
But most importantly, the writer had a motive. Daniel Brophy was insured for $ 1.5 million (87.1 million rubles) in favor of his wife. The court found Nancy Crampton Brophy guilty. The verdict will be announced on June 13, 2022. The woman's lawyer has already stated that he disagrees with the decision and is preparing an appeal.
Nancy Crampton Brophy is the author of several essays and novels. Harm her brainchild books "Wrong husband", "Wrong lover" and, attention, "How to kill a husband". It is quite clear that the author should have known a lot about this case. But then why did she get caught so incompetently?
The murder of husbands by women for the sake of insurance payments is not uncommon in the United States. The tradition of such earnings was laid back in the 19th century by Belle Gannes.
