Sometimes the human body throws surprises to doctors, forcing them to break their heads thoroughly. Surgeons from the Mount Sinai Medical Complex in New York recently had to remove a 38-year-old man's tooth that had grown right in his nose. It was not some trifle, but a real fang with a length of 14 mm!

The patient went to the doctors complaining of difficulty breathing. According to him, the problems started several years ago, but now they have become simply unbearable. A superficial examination revealed a curvature of the nasal septum in the patient, as well as a certain seal in the depth of the nasal passage.

The CT scan put everything in its place. The so-called ectopic tooth turned out to be an incomprehensible seal. This is the name of teeth that have grown in unsuitable places for them. This rare, but not exceptional phenomenon may be associated with the growth of baby teeth. Sometimes such a tooth does not fall out, but remains somewhere in the tissues.

It also happens that an ordinary tooth erupts in the wrong place and grows wherever it pleases. Oddly enough, ectopic teeth can appear both in childhood and in adulthood. In the case of the patient from Mount Sinai, it is not known exactly when the tooth began to grow, because while it was small, it did not bother the owner at all.

According to statistics, 1% of the population has ectopic teeth. But most people just don't know about their existence. Moreover, they do not always require removal. If such a tooth does not cause inconvenience to the owner, it may not be touched. It also happens that ectopic teeth can be aligned with braces.

But Mount Sinai was not the most favorable case. Therefore, I had to do a complicated operation to extract a tooth from my nose. Now, when 3 months have passed since the removal, the patient has fully recovered, feels great and can breathe fully.

We hope this news will not awaken in you a fear of dental manipulation. And if you still feel uncomfortable, then we offer you several ways to stop being afraid of dentists.
