Cirilla, or simply Ciri, is one of the key characters in the books by Pan Andrzej Sapkowski about the adventures of the witcher Geralt of Rivia.

After CD Project RED managed to attract the attention of a huge audience to a fictional universe, the creation of an expensive, beautiful and thoughtful series was only a matter of time.

Yes, real fans remember one of the more or less successful attempts to create a TV adaptation of the books, which was released in 2002.

The project sorely lacked a budget, but it bribed with good acting and, no less importantly, a successful selection of actors for key roles. It is this factor that threatens to bring down the popularity of the American adaptation of The Witcher even before full-scale filming begins.

The reason for the fans' indignation was the news that they plan to take a BAME-girl (dark-skinned, Asian or a representative of national minorities) for the role of Ciri. So an entry appeared on the National Youth Theatre website, which was quickly published on the Reset Era forum.

Such text was placed in the ad, presumably from a person associated with Netflix. It was almost immediately deleted.

After a direct question to the showrunner of the project, Lawrence Schmidt, about whether it would be minority representatives who would be filmed in the series, she answered very vaguely.

After that, an avalanche of disapproval descended on Mrs. Schmidt. This was also dictated by the fact that she had previously stated that any deviations in the series from the original story were unavailable.

However, it is fair to note that nowhere in the books is there a direct indication that Ciri is of European, Asian or any other appearance.

In turn, fans noted that fantasy was created in the setting of Slavic mythology and the selection of actors should be authentic.

After the heat of passions, a lot of different photojabs, memes appeared, which directly feature both Ciri herself in a new role, and a generalized image of NetFlix politics.

A week later, the producer deleted her Twitter page, noting the "hatred" she had to face personally. At the same time, the news appeared that an actress from Poland of "Slavic appearance" was being sought for the role of Ciri.

The information was announced by the moderator of the discussion on Reddit, who received the data from an anonymous source. It is noteworthy that they have not yet been confirmed.

So, the main question is, what will the creators of the series do? On the one hand, there is a completely correct project "Troy" from Netflix, which corresponds to the concept of tolerance of the TV channel administration, but absolutely failed according to user estimates.

On the other – the pressure of the public, which will not be able to forgive the "abuse", as fans say, over the cult project.

There are also those who consider the whole company, including the emotional departure of the producer from the social network, a wise PR move.

There is only one thing that can be said with certainty – there will always be dissatisfied. Netflix will either be accused of fawning over the audience, or they will be accused of neglecting their own words about the importance of tolerance.
