June 26 was the decisive match for the Nigerian national team to reach the playoffs. When the team was driving to the stadium in St. Petersburg, a relative called the captain of the national team, informed about the abduction of his father and left a number where you can contact the kidnappers. When John Obi Mikel called the criminals, they demanded a ransom and ordered not to tell anyone about it, otherwise they would shoot the hostage.
The footballer tried to cope with stress, went on the field and spent the entire 90 minutes of the match there.
The police managed to rescue the footballer's father from captivity only on July 2, a week after the abduction.

Pa Michael Obi was abducted in southeastern Nigeria on his way to a funeral. This is not the first abduction in his life. A similar situation happened to him in the summer of 2011.
