How to properly store cereals so that they do not spoil for a long time

Surely, you have at least once encountered the problem of the appearance of uninvited "little guests" in cereals or pasta. Food moths and other insects are very fond of bulk products. Therefore, stocks should be stored with caution. Just pouring the cereal into a jar and putting it in the closet is not enough.

Proper storage of cereals begins with their purchase. Pay attention to the quality of the products — the packaging should be intact, the shelf life should be up—to—date, the cereal itself should be clean and neat, without inclusions of foreign particles. If the cereal is running out of shelf life or it is of poor quality, then even the most reverent compliance with the recommendations will not keep it for a long time. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to the purchase of stocks.

After buying high-quality cereals, you need to choose the right place to store it. It should be a dry, closed place where there is no sharp drop in temperature and humidity. The cabinets in the kitchen are perfect for this! However, you can still store cereals in the pantry or on the balcony, subject to the above recommendations.

It is highly not recommended to store cereals in factory packages, as they cannot boast of tightness. It is best to buy special containers for bulk products, ideally glass, with tightly fitting lids. In such jars, cereals will be completely safe.

To provide additional prevention from small pests, throw a little dry lemon zest, orange, garlic clove or bay leaf into the container. If the bugs have already started and you need to get rid of them, wash the jar thoroughly, and then keep it in the freezer for a day. So you will definitely destroy all the larvae.

Even if you followed all the rules described above, this does not guarantee that the bugs will definitely not start. Therefore, it is recommended to regularly "audit" your lockers. Make it a rule to wipe the dust inside at least once a month, ventilate them and inspect the jars of cereals.
