Today this building, which will house a luxury hotel, is one of the main attractions of Uruguay.
This lying on the rocks, the hotel could claim the title of the most unusual in the world! He reminds gaudí buildings or white houses of the Greek island of Santorini however, in contrast to the aforementioned buildings, it is not a straight line.
The hotel is called "Casapueblo" is situated not far from the posh Uruguayan resort of Punta del este, where they like to rest celebrity. It was invented and built manually the recently deceased Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez of Vilaro. In the construction, which lasted almost four decades, it was attended only by himself PAES of Vilaro and local fishermen, who lived in these once deserted lands.
The hotel complex consists of 13 terraces, placed one above the other. The lower floor opens directly onto the beach. The rooms are not rooms, as usual, and characters that Vilaro drew himself. According to him, he chose this place to build a hotel because here you can admire magnificent sunsets. Along with bedrooms, it offers a bar, Spa and art Museum.
Creator at "Casapueblo", Vilaro was an enthusiastic traveler. He was friends with many famous people such as Pablo Picasso and Brigitte Bardot. The land for the construction of the hotel he purchased in 1958, and the funds helped him to gather friends and investors.
First on the territory of the future hotel has been in a warehouse for construction materials, then an art Studio. Only after that, Vilaro started construction of the building, whose form, as recognized by the artist himself, was inspired by him "the Mediterranean architecture of stoves and shapes of the female body".
He lined the walls of the building with cement and manually gave them the most bizarre forms. In addition, Vilaro created in the walls of many niches and the decorative Windows, which placed numerous art objects — mostly Souvenirs brought from travels. He turned the building into a repository of their memories.
White-white colored building stands out brightly against the sky and the sea, and weave towers, corridors, tunnels and the tunnels and turns the building into a fabulous maze. The building houses not only several bars, but also available to the guests of the kitchen. In addition, the outside of the building there is a niche where it is convenient to nesting birds, so guests can enjoy the bird life of families in close proximity.
PAES of Vilaro said that the building is "steeped in the energy of those who lived here, and who the architecture of the building made the experience a lot of unforgettable moments." The artist lived here for the rest of his days before his death in 2014 at the age of 90 years. After Vilaro left this world, his family decided to commemorate him, to open magnificent house to the public. Hotel-Museum manages the second wife Vilaro.
The hotel offers a choice of 72 apartments of various sizes on different floors. Museum Vilaro, located in the same building, can be visited by any person and not just a guest. The Museum is open from 10 am until sunset, when the "sun ceremony" — artistic event, accompanied by the voice of Vilaro: leading the ceremony include a recording in which the artist reads his poetry about the Sun.
Carlos PAES of Vilaro lived for many years with his second wife Annette. They have six children, the eldest of whom, Carlito PAES, became the hero of world news in 1972: he was one of 16 survivors of a plane crash in the Andes who were able to survive 72 days in the mountains waiting for help.
