By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/honest-russia-in-photos-by-alexander-petrosyan.htmlIt is believed that photography makes it possible to most honestly reflect reality. This is true, but not all photographers are ready to use this magic. Most often, lens masters use the capabilities of technology and their talent for certain purposes. They show the world the way they want - embellishing or, conversely, denigrating reality. Russian photographer Alexander Petrosyan is extremely honest with his audience — with him you can see Russia as it is.
Alexander is not carried away by staged shots — his passion is street photography. The heroes of the photographer's pictures are ordinary Russians who were caught in a variety of situations. Someone is working, someone is having fun, and someone is just going about their business. In the situations that we see every day, Petrosyan finds something unusual.
Sometimes the artist catches the moment, sometimes he plays with the angle. And it happens that the whole essence of the picture is a combination of many details. The artist's talent lies precisely in the ability to see what is inaccessible to others. That is why it is interesting for us to see photos taken by Alexander just on the streets of Russian cities.
Alexander Petrosyan took his first professional pictures in 2000. And already in 2003 he was hired as a photojournalist in the St. Petersburg weekly "My district". In 2008, he joined Kommersant and began collaborating with the most popular publications in Russia, and then the world.
Photos of the master from St. Petersburg appeared on the pages of Newsweek, National Geographic, GEO, "Russian Reporter", "Ogonka", "Money", "Power", as well as in the newspapers "Kommersant", "Izvestia", "Arguments and Facts". Komsomolskaya Pravda, Delovoy Peterburg. Petrosyan's works have repeatedly won prizes at domestic and international competitions. In 2009, Alexander won the Grand Prix of the Foundation for the Development of Photojournalism.
In an interview, Alexander said that street photography is not the genre where money is made. This is the direction of enthusiastic enthusiasts who are in love with their business:
And Alexander also loves his hometown. Probably, no photographer Peter turns out to be as emotional and diverse as he is.
