Frightening ghost towns from all over the world

By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/frightening-ghost-towns-from-all-over-the-world.htmlThe world is full of ghost towns - deserted, looted, decayed. The number of such "settlements" is frightening. But what scares even more is the atmosphere reigning there. People are constantly abandoning towns and villages — because of the economic crisis or (more likely) because of natural disasters. And after them, there is usually a frightening desert, in which it's just right to shoot a horror movie. If you are planning to spend your vacation in an unusual place - a ghost town - welcome!
1. Dallol, Ethiopia
Dallol was once a thriving mining town in the Ethiopian desert.
2. But its residents left the city in the late 1960s.
3. Nova Cidad de Kilamba, Angola
Kilamba was built for 500,000 people, but now the city's population is much smaller.
4. In 2013, only 220 apartments were sold out of the first batch of completed (2,800 apartments).
5. Kolmanskop, Namibia
6. This desert city of the South African country appeared thanks to the diamond mining fever in the region.
7. Once there was a casino, a hospital and a school. After the end of the First World War, people abandoned this city because the volume of diamond mining declined sharply.
8. Pyramid, Svalbard, Norway
Sweden built this mining village in 1910, although it is located on the territory of Norway. After that, the village was sold to Russia in 1927.
9. Russia ruled it until 1998. In this city stands the northernmost statue of Lenin in the world.
10. Oradour-sur-Glane, France
11. This small village was destroyed in 1944 by the Germans. The fascists staged a real massacre here — they killed all 642 residents of the village, including 205 children.
12. After the war, the authorities decided to preserve the village as an open-air museum to pay tribute to what happened here.
13. Pegrema, Republic of Karelia, Russia
14. This small Russian village was completely abandoned after the October Revolution of 1917. The local dilapidated houses represent a picturesque image of pre-revolutionary wooden architecture.
15. Chaiten, Chile
16. In May 2008, the village of Chaiten was completely evacuated when the volcano of the same name began to erupt very close by.
17. This was the first eruption of this volcano in 9,000 years. After the eruption, the village was hit by a flood.
18. Residential developments in El Quinone, Spain
19. These residential developments in the amount of 13,500 houses were built in the early 2000s, at the peak of the real estate boom.
20. The cost of the venture is almost $ 12 billion. As a result, only a few apartments were sold, and now the city is abandoned.
