On August 7, in the central province of Vietnam, Quang Ngai, a father and son were found who hid in the jungle during the war and lived there for more than 40 years without contact with civilization.
1. Local authorities have come a long way, deepening 40 kilometers into the jungle.
There they discovered a tree hut in which an 82-year-old man lived with his son. The old man was so weak that he could not walk, so he was carried out of the forest on a stretcher.
2. Ho Van Than went into the jungle in 1971: that night, bombs were dropped on the area where he lived with his family. As a result of the bombing, the Vietnamese's house was destroyed, his wife and two eldest sons were killed. He grabbed the youngest child, who was only a year old, and ran into the forest.
3. There he built a wooden hut, similar to a nest, 6 meters above the ground, next to the stream.
4. All this time the men ate what they found in the jungle. Near the "home" they had a kind of field where they grew sugar cane. In the house they had a small hearth, in addition, they smoked tobacco, which they themselves grew. In the photo: Homemade hoe.
5. In the photo - home-made clothes of modern Mowgli.
From a past life, the man only had soldiers' trousers and a red children's jacket that his son wore. All other things - clothes, knives, axes and arrows for hunting - the fugitives had to make their own.
6. The basis of the diet of two men for 40 years was predominantly greens and vegetables. Sometimes they hunted.
7. The father is fluent in one of the local dialects, but the son, whom his father took to the jungle as a one-year-old child, knows only a few words.
8. After the necessary medical measures, the local authorities intend to return the family to civilized life.
9. Ho Van Tri, the youngest of Thanh's sons, who was born on the day of the bombing, discovered his father and brother about twenty years ago, but failed to convince them to return to normal life. According to Ho Van Tri, he came to them every year, brought oil and salt, but his relatives did not recognize him as “one of their own”. He also brought dishes and clothes, but the "savages" did not use them. When he brought other people with him, his father and brother hid as soon as they saw strangers. To return to the people, apparently, they agreed because of the state of health of Ho Van Than. Both father and son are now undergoing medical examinations.
