Fairground Strippers
Categories: North America
By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/fairground-strippers.htmlFrom 1972 to 1975, Susan Meiselas spent several summers photographing and interviewing female strippers performing traveling burlesque shows at fairs in New England, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. She followed them from city to city, photographing dancers on and off stage, performing, as well as their personal lives. Several interviews were recorded with the artists, their friends, show managers, and some clients. As a result, the book "Carnival Strippers" was published in 1976. The publication contained a selection of black-and-white photographs with excerpts from interviews.
